NJIO Kicks off 2018 with Open House Rehearsals

New Providence – The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra is excited to ring in the new year with interested musicians at their Open House rehearsals!  Whether you are a musician looking for a skillful non-competitive orchestra to join or an avid classical music lover looking for free concerts, NJIO invites you to learn more about this New Providence-based organization.

As 2018 gets underway, NJIO will host two Open House rehearsals on January 4th and 11th.  Musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome to join one or all of our orchestras during these rehearsals.  It’s the start of a new year and a new concert period, and the music is new to everyone.  Come get the feel of the orchestra and see why the musicians love being a part of the NJIO family!  Prelude Ensemble, an ensemble intended for beginning strings, rehearses from 4:30-5:30pm.  Intermezzo Orchestra, an intermediate-level group that has expanded to a full symphony orchestra (strings, winds, brass, and percussion), rehearses from 5:45-700pm.  Symphony Orchestra, the more advanced symphonic group, rehearses from 7:15-9:30pm.  If you or someone you know plays an instrument, stop by and rehearse with us!

Mark it on your calendar: NJIO’s first concert of 2018 is Sunday, February 18th at 3:00 pm at Summit Middle School.  Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Artistic Director Warren Cohen, will perform works by Coleridge-Taylor and Smetana and will feature the NJIO Festival Chorus. Intermezzo Orchestra will perform pieces by Offenbach and Vivaldi.  Be sure to arrive half an hour early to catch Prelude Ensemble’s performance in the lobby, and Flute Choir’s performance at intermission!

About NJIO
NJIO, now in its 24th season, has been recognized as a national leader in intergenerational excellence through its unique approach to teaching musical performance.  Not only do the  members aged 8 to 80 play together, but they also mentor one another.  In addition to providing free concerts and outreach to the community, NJIO has been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. and at the United Nations, and was a finalist for the Eisner Prize for Intergenerational Excellence.  NJIO welcomes new members of all ages and abilities each concert period to one of its several orchestras – no auditions needed!

This program is made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
