Be Dazzled at NJIO’s “Orchestral Fireworks” Concert on Sunday, March 6

Morristown –Expect a brilliant musical performance at New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra’s concert, “Orchestral Fireworks,” on March 6 at 3:00 p.m. at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown. All three of NJIO ensembles and orchestras will perform, each consisting of amateur and professional musicians from 5 to 85. NJIO’s 2015 Young Artist Concerto Competition Winner, the amazing 15-year-old Alyssa Kim of River Edge, NJ perform the Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Symphony Orchestra.  Admission is free.

Ms. Kim, a student of Naoko Tanaka at Juilliard Pre-College in New York City, began playing violin at the age of four. She has won numerous competitions including the KRB New York International Music Competition, the NYIAA Young Artist Competition, International Virtuoso Competition, and the Ensemble 212 Young Artist Concerto Competition. This is her first New Jersey competition performance and we are elated to have her perform with us in the beautifully acoustical Dolan Performance Hall.

NJIO’s Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Artistic Director Maestro Warren Cohen, will begin the program with Handel’s Royal Fireworks Overture. This heroic music was composed to accompany London’s grand fireworks display celebrating the end of the War of the Austrian Succession. The program continues with Haydn’s Symphony No. 104, his last numbered symphony, written for London and aptly nicknamed the London Symphony. This wonderful music shows Haydn in full maturity and has been popular on concert programs from the day it was written.

NJIO’s Intermezzo Orchestra will perform the Suite from Le Roi S’Amuse by Delibes. This Medieval-style suite of dances from 1882 was inspired by Victor Hugo’s novel of the same name, which also formed the basis for Verdi’s 1851 opera Rigoletto.

Be sure to arrive to the concert a half of an hour early to enjoy a short, but delightful serenade by NJIO’s Prelude Ensemble, led by conductor Robert Anderson.
