Lorraine Marks, Founder of the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra, led
the Orchestra for its
first nine years as Music Director and Conductor.
The interest
generated by NJIO garnered numerous recognitions: the prestigious
New Jersey Pride Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts sponsored by the
New Jersey Monthly Magazine; Outstanding Citizen of the Year by The Courier News
for “People Who Make A Difference in the Arts”; Outstanding Women of
Somerset County from the Somerset County Commission; a Certificate of
Special Recognition from the U.S. Congress; a Citation from the State of
New Jersey Senate and General Assembly; and a Service Award from the
American Heart Association. |

Lorraine spoke, on behalf of NJIO, to local service groups including AARP, Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, the New Jersey Educators Convention, Japan Global Forum (UN Committee) on Aging, and the New Jersey Arts in Aging Conference. She
also made public service announcements for Channel 9’s Viewpoint.
As
an active professional conductor and freelance violist, Lorraine has
performed with her own string quartet throughout New Jersey, conducted the ASTA adult string orchestra and was guest
conductor for the Society of Musical Arts. She is a graduate of Montclair
State University with a BA in music education, a member of the American
String Teachers Association, the American Symphony Orchestra League, Art
Pride, Music Educators National Conference, and the Alliance of Arts
Educators.
Lorraine is currently Orchestra Director with the Pine Crest School in
Boca Raton, Florida. She also founded and directs
the
Florida Intergenerational Orchestra of America. |
